Ideas

Posted by Buddy Foote
Our game will be unique in the MMORPG world for two reasons: 1) it's free and 2) the player shapes the virtual world that we will create. Yes, this means that we won't establist towns filled with NPC's that players on adventures will pop into. The more less daring and merchanting folk will create towns containing their shops and houses! However, this doesn't rule NPC's as being out of the game being that they'll be crucial to the economy of the game, and overall atmosphere. An idea for shops: NPC-owned shops can run out of money if players are selling stuff to them, so until another player buys something from that shop or waits to a half hour to an hour to which the shop till will have money again, that player cannot sell to that shop. Player-owned shops, however, will be more critical in the game that NPC-owned shops.

There will be a beginning town already established (a name could be something like Vile City) where new players will go, after getting off of our own Tutorial Land of course! Here players will learn more about their role in the game. Will they be an adventurer and explore the widespread region of our world, will they go into a specific skill to earn an income and a living, or will they establish a town, be mayor, and run a government? Will they travel to acient runes to study strange languages to try and uncover ancient magic or will they sit on their rocking chair on their back porch drinking beer and throwing rocks at passerbys? You will honestly have a FREE virutal life after playing this game.

Players shape the virtual world: We make the world, the playing field. We are the gods of this region. (Oh yes, here's a short idea I have. Besides being mods or staff, we can be the gods of the game and look all cool and stuff, and you and me will have wars aganist each other, making epic history in the game. There's the thing again: shaping the world.) Say for example we hide something somewhere in the land and we never mention it. Well, our daring adventuers who play the game on their journeys may uncover it, and that way they can alter the game's economy and shape by that find. Maybe it's a new breed of monsters never known about that drop a very rare shield. Maybe it's a town full of elves with new stuff. It'll be there the whole time, but hidden away, waiting to be uncovered. Now as a god, if nobody finds a secret for six months after release that we had since day one, then we'll come down from the heavens and give them a riddle or something. :P

Maybe players will find a new herb that can create a potion never heard of before, but they know that this herb can create something due to their overall knowledge of potion making that this game will establish for them. Maybe players will find an underground lake with a new type of fish to catch. Maybe players will find a new type of ore to mine and forge into something new. Maybe a new pet to tame (!). Maybe islands by traveling by boat (!).

Not to leave you or anybody else hanging, there will be player-verus-player areas. These will include safe dueling and player killing/clan wars. Just like how buildings can be built, clan buildings can also be built, to which supplies can be bought by an NPC who is located near the wilderness of our game. In this wilderness, players can kill one another, but only the deeper they go in can they kill the ones near their combat level and going away (same theory as in Runescape). However there will be an NPC that will own some other land (many acres) that can be used primarly for clan wars, to which any level can attack any other level, and scores are kept to see which clan is winning the war and other current status reports. Clan leaders at war can agree to do a safe fight or death match fight. Horses are allowed.

If players are too poor to open a shop, they can rent a stall in a town or buy their own, putting it up on the roadside somewhere. Depending on how much they spent on a certain type of stall will determine how many items they can put on the shop window at once. Players can hire an NPC to watch over their stall so that they can go away and do something else while making money at their stall at the same time. Same goes to player-owned shops in buildings.

Players just can't build houses anywhere, but must talk to an estate agent to get a list of avilable lots inside or outside of town. To establish a city, speak to a king of a kingdom or if there is no king, another person ruling over the general area. That way you can buy a lot of land and build your house only on that lot.

Skills include, but are not limited to:

Also names of skills should be changed for some, so it doesn't look like we're copying Runescape, to which we are not!

Combat skills (we'll discuss these together)
Magic
Ranging
Fishing
Cooking
Mining
Smithing
Potion-Making
-skil to turn wood into usable objects, like 'fletching'-
Woodcutting
Carpentry
-making fires won't be a skill, but a "secret skill" Secret skills are things that you do that when you do it a lot, you get better at it and can open new areas relating to what you did. For example, climbing up a mountain won't be a skill, but the more you mountain climb, the better, faster, and more successful you are at it.-
Farming
Taming -taming wild animals or monsters to become pets-
Prayer
HitPoints *of course!*
Summoning -would be nice to have-
Transformation -just a thought -- transforming into other creatures for combat reasons or to become family with a breed of dragons [joke]-

Other ideas:

Energy gathering: Using a special glove, you can gather a type of energy at a specific alter to use in combat reasons (limited use) or to put into a light saber-like sword to have a sword of that energy type. For example, gather fire energy to obtain fire sword.

Portal Creating: Create portals to other areas of the map for travel (public or private) or to other dimensions.

Playable race are humans.

Other races:

Goblins
Faries
Dark Faries
Elves
Dwarves (I'm currently creating a Dwarf Island map [a Runescape fake] that we can use)
Lamias
Dark Elves
Hell Demons
Lava Golems -live underground below volcanoes-
Werewolves

These are just ideas! Enjoy!
With the both of our brains colliding into one, we'll have a game that'll take years to make. I have an idea, if our game becomes a sucess, let's make a p2p version. How we split the money across the nation, I don't know. :P

Other stuff:

Taming:

List of animals that can be tamed...taming levels not known. Remember, all of these animals have to be orignally wild, however taming also includes tricks the animals can do, tasks they can do, and how well they obey you.

-cats
-dogs
-lizards
-parakeets
-parrots
-pidgeons
-rabbits
-bears
-squirrels
-racoons
-deer
-hamsters
-wild horses
-tigers
-monkeys
-lions
-mice
-elephants
-bobcat

Farming:

Farming includes both crops and livestock.

Livestock:

-sheep
-cows
-chickens
-rams
-buffalo
-horses
-pigs
-ducks
-llamas

Quest: The Lost llama -- to have access to llamas as livestock, you must complete this quest, which requires the player to find and herd lost llamas throughout a mountain ridge back to the owner. Reward: baby llama and 350 gp.
